Home Improvement – The Inexpensive Way!

“If you are a person faced with a possible layoff, you aren’t going to buy a boat, but you might buy a log splitter,” says David Therrien, Timberwolf’s chief executive.

Not every home improvement product project has to be a major overhaul or a major expense; there are a number of quick and easy updates you can make at a reasonable cost to add value and appeal to your home. Start with paint. Paint your walls, your cabinets, your trim or your doors. You can even paint your stove or floor tiles with specialty paint designed for that purpose. Increase storage space by installing closet or pantry organizers. Replace boring kitchen cabinet knobs with ones that are unique and decorative. While you’re at it, do the same with your plain white wall plates. Enhance your new paint job with fresh, bright curtains and sheers. Rent a floor buffer, and buff and wax your hardwood floors. A little cash and a dash of creativity can result in some dramatic changes.

As what was mentioned awhile ago, this is a construction project. Regardless if it is a minor or major one, you need to secure permit. Your local government agency has implement rules and regulations regarding building constructions. In order for your home addition project to be legal, you should comply with all the requirements. Otherwise, you can not start your project on time.

For a very young girl, simply buying several cans of pastel paint is one answer. Buy enough cans of semi-gloss enamel to cover the entire room, then buy several smaller cans for sponge painting over this color. It’s a good idea to pick up several really cheap disposable gloves too. These are usually displayed in the paint section, and you can buy a whole box of them. Pastel purple is a good color for a base. For the smaller cans, you can use pastels in blue, yellow, pink, and green.

In case you bought an old home and want your bathroom fixtures to match the style, oil-rubbed bronze is a good finish for faucets and towel holders. For your bathing needs, a claw foot tub is a good suggestion. Just be sure you have enough space to accommodate one of these, as they can be quite large. You can install a matching shower head above the tub using a free-standing holder. Another option is to attach it to the tub using a flexible hose.

After you have chosen your door type, look at prices to find good quality brands that do not cost your arms and legs. Home Depot stores as well as other cabinet stores have great variety in brands, styles, and designs. There are also a lot of online stores where you can take a look at what they have and often you would get online discount on some of the items. Some stores ship free of charge so ask.

Coordinate your bedding and curtains. Purchasing matching fabrics for a room is a cheap way to give a bedroom a mini makeover. You can also choose fabrics that match your current flooring, rugs, pictures and wallpaper to make the room look even more stylish. If you are good at sewing, consider just buying the fabric and running up your own curtains and bed sheets.

Installing marble flooring is done in the same way as installing ceramic tile. The main difference is the marble has greater weight than the ceramic tiles. First, start with a completely clear floor. Test the floorboards to make sure they are sturdy. If they are not sturdy, the grout between the tiles could crack. If the floor needs to be stabilized, add joists or jack supports to the level below the floor. After checking for stability, you need to check to be sure your floor is level. Using a long level, check for slope in the floor. Also check under the level to look for dips in the floor. If necessary, build up the floor. A level floor is a must for installing a marble floor.
